dispensing technology for defense and security –
no room for error

The strictest requirements apply in the defense and security industry: complete process documentation, protection against tampering through encapsulation and decades of reliability. In avionics electronics, radar systems, drones or guidance systems, dispensing technology is not a side issue, but a safety-critical core process.

dosmatix systems are the dispensing technology for manufacturers who produce according to MIL-STD or comparable standards. An optional scanner workflow can be used to read in material containers, assign production orders, identify assemblies and write process data directly back to higher-level MES systems – seamlessly and order-related. Bubble-free vacuum potting and a repeat accuracy of 0.05 mm meet the quality requirements of safety-critical components – batch after batch, reproducibly.

why is dispensing technology crucial in the defense industry?

Electronics in drones, missiles and armored vehicles are exposed to extreme conditions: shock, vibration, temperature fluctuations from -55 °C to +125 °C and aggressive media. Encapsulation is the primary protective measure here. At the same time, it serves as protection against manipulation: fully encapsulated components cannot be removed, copied or analyzed (protection against reverse engineering). There is also the regulatory dimension: every single dispensing process may need to be fully documented and every batch of material must be traceable.

typical applications and materials

avionics potting

Bubble-free 2K vacuum potting of on-board electronics with temperature-resistant epoxy resins to protect against environmental influences and reverse engineering.

radar & antenna encapsulation

Potting with dielectric 2K silicones or epoxies to ensure transmission/reception performance.

plug & connector seal

Application of FIPG gaskets with 1C RTV silicones for hermetically sealed connections.

ignition electronics

High-precision vacuum potting with chemical-resistant 2K epoxies under strict process control.

tamper protection (potting)

Full encapsulation of safety-critical assemblies to prevent access to the electronics.

suitable dispensing technology from dosmatix

dispenser

dos piston
Piston dispenser, 2K

Ideal for safety-critical 2K vacuum potting. The piston principle with alternating pistons (variant M-A / L-A) ensures a continuous, reproducible material flow – even with highly filled or abrasive potting compounds. Bubble-free vacuum potting in combination with maximum repeat accuracy meets the quality requirements of safety-critical defense components.

dos control
Control

The dos control controls and monitors the dispensing process – with time stamp, quantity log and process parameters. In combination with an optional scanner workflow and integration into higher-level MES systems, the result is end-to-end process documentation that meets the traceability requirements of demanding production environments

your advantages with dosmatix

  • Bubble-free vacuum potting: dos piston + dos prep (up to 5 mbar) – no cavities, no weak points in safety-critical assemblies.
  • Reproducible precision: 0.05 mm repeat accuracy, batch after batch – even with highly viscous and filled materials up to 500,000 mPa-s.
  • Process documentation: dos control logs every dispensing process. In combination with scanner workflow and MES connection, the required traceability is achieved.
  • Specialized in safety-critical potting applications” – verifiable through references/applications.

frequently asked questions and answers

häufige fragen und antworten

How is traceability ensured in accordance with MIL standards?

A: Traceability in defense and aerospace production is created at system level with dosmatix – not by a single component. The dos control records and logs every dispensing process with the relevant process parameters. An optional scanner workflow – connected to the cell or material supply – is used to assign the container, order and assembly to the dispensing process. The process data is written back to a higher-level MES system, which ensures end-to-end documentation and traceability in line with the respective production requirements. We clarify together which specific MIL standards apply in the customer project – the system architecture is designed to support these requirements.

How does encapsulation protect against reverse engineering?

A: Protection against reverse engineering is achieved through the interaction of potting material, potting geometry and process quality – dosmatix supplies the system that implements this process in a reproducible and bubble-free manner. The decisive factor here is that bubbles and cavities in the potting are potential points of attack – both mechanically and chemically. Bubble-free vacuum potting with the dos piston in combination with the dos prep (up to 5 mbar vacuum level) reliably eliminates these weak points. Which potting material offers the best protection – e.g. hard, opaque epoxy resin with high chemical resistance – depends on the specific requirements and is typically determined together with the material manufacturer. dosmatix ensures that the selected material is processed reliably and reproducibly.

What requirements does the defense industry place on the potting and dispensing process – and how does dosmatix meet them?

A: Defense applications – from avionics to radar encapsulation – require three things: bubble-free potting, reproducible dispensing accuracy and seamless process documentation. The dos piston with dos prep (vacuum up to 5 mbar) ensures bubble-free 2K potting even with highly viscous materials. The dos in-line achieves 0.05 mm repeat accuracy – batch for batch. The dos control logs every dispensing process; in combination with scanner workflow and MES, the required process documentation is created.
